Summary: What This Means for You
This summary highlights the most important things to know. The full policy below governs your use of the Service.
We collect what we need to run the app — nothing more. That means your account info, the photos you upload, how you use the app, and data from the cameras you connect. We don't sell your data. See Section 2.
Your photos are private to you. We don't share your photos or plant data with other users or third parties, except to operate the Service (e.g., running them through our AI models). See Section 4.
We collect basic anonymized and aggregated analytics to improve the app. We do not use your photos or personal data to train AI models. Voluntary feedback you provide may be used to improve the Service. See Section 3.
You can delete anything, anytime. Individual photos, plants, zones — or your entire account. When you delete your account, we make every reasonable effort to permanently remove all your data. See Section 6.
We use Firebase and a small number of trusted third parties to operate the Service. We don't let them use your data for their own purposes. See Section 4.
If you're in California, you have additional rights under CCPA. See Section 8.
1. Who We Are
Desert Hollow Ventures LLC ("Greenlapse," "we," "us," or "our") is a Nevada limited liability company that operates the Greenlapse mobile application and related services (the "Service"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, and share information about you when you use the Service.
If you have questions about this policy, contact us at privacy@greenlapse.app.
2. Information We Collect
2.1 Information You Provide
- Account information: Your name, email address, and password when you create an account.
- Photos and User Content: Photos you upload directly, photos automatically taken by connected cameras, plants and zones you create, and any other content you submit to the Service.
- Plant identification inputs: Photos you submit for AI plant identification, including images captured in the wild through the "Save for Later" feature.
- Feedback and support requests: Messages you send to our support team, feedback submitted through the app, and responses to any surveys.
2.2 Information We Collect Automatically
- Usage data: Features you use, screens you visit, actions you take within the app, and the frequency and duration of your sessions.
- Device information: Device type, operating system version, unique device identifiers, and app version.
- Log data: IP address, timestamps, error logs, and crash reports.
- Camera and integration data: When you connect a Ring or other supported camera, we receive access to the video or image feed from that device as authorized through the third-party platform. We only access this data to provide the Service to you.
2.3 Information from Third Parties
- Ring and camera platforms: When you link a Ring account, Ring provides us with access to camera feeds and, depending on your Ring settings, associated metadata. The data Ring shares with us is governed by Ring's own privacy policy.
- Weather providers: We receive location-based weather data to contextualize plant care recommendations. This requires a city or zip code level location associated with your zones — precise GPS location is never required.
- Plant identification services: Photos you upload or those taken by a connected device may be processed by Google's Gemini platform. Gemini processes the images to identify plants, understand changes over time, and complete other analysis in support of features in the app. Google does not use your data to train its models. Their data practices are governed by Google's privacy policy at policies.google.com/privacy.
2.4 Analytics
We use Google Analytics to understand how users interact with the app. Google Analytics collects usage events, session data, and device information. This data is anonymized and aggregated and used to improve the Service. You can learn more about Google's data practices at policies.google.com/privacy.
3. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Provide and operate the Service — including plant identification, zone management, photo history, timelapse generation, and AI-generated care recommendations.
- Send transactional communications — account confirmations, password resets, and service notifications.
- Send marketing and product communications — updates about new features, tips, and relevant product news. You can opt out of these at any time (see Section 6).
- Send push notifications — in-app alerts such as plant care reminders or detected changes in your yard. You control notification permissions through your device settings.
- Improve the Service — analyzing anonymized and aggregated usage patterns, diagnosing bugs, and refining features. Voluntary feedback you submit may also inform app improvements. We do not use your photos or content to train AI models.
- Ensure safety and enforce our Terms — detecting abuse, investigating violations, and protecting the integrity of the Service.
- Comply with legal obligations — responding to lawful requests from government authorities or courts.
4. How We Share Your Information
We do not sell your personal information. We share your information only in the following limited circumstances:
4.1 Service Providers
We work with a small number of trusted third-party companies that help us operate the Service. These providers act on our behalf and are contractually prohibited from using your data for their own purposes. They include:
- Google Firebase — database, authentication, cloud storage, and analytics infrastructure
- Google Gemini — AI analysis of photos along with other contextual information like location and date
- Open-Meteo — location-based weather context for plant care
- Amazon — account linking service for connecting to Ring devices and taking automatic photos
4.2 Camera Platform Integrations
When you link a Ring or other supported camera account, data flows between Greenlapse and that platform as necessary to deliver the Service. Those integrations are governed by the respective platform's own privacy policies, which you should review independently.
4.3 Legal Requirements
We may disclose your information if required to do so by law, regulation, or valid legal process (such as a court order or subpoena), or if we reasonably believe disclosure is necessary to protect the rights, property, or safety of Greenlapse, our users, or the public.
4.4 Business Transfers
If Greenlapse is involved in a merger, acquisition, financing, or sale of all or substantially all of its assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will notify you via email or in-app notice before your information becomes subject to a materially different privacy policy.
4.5 With Your Consent
We may share your information for other purposes with your explicit consent.
5. Data Storage and Security
Your data is stored on Google Firebase infrastructure, which uses industry-standard encryption at rest and in transit. We implement reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards to protect your information from unauthorized access, loss, or misuse.
No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure. While we take data security seriously, we cannot guarantee absolute security. If we become aware of a data breach that affects your information, we will notify you as required by applicable law.
Greenlapse is based in the United States. If you access the Service from outside the US, your information will be transferred to and processed in the United States, where data protection laws may differ from those in your country.
6. Your Rights and Choices
6.1 Access and Correction
You can view and update your account information at any time through the app settings. If you need help accessing or correcting information that isn't editable in the app, contact us at privacy@greenlapse.app.
6.2 Deleting Your Content
You can delete individual photos, plants, or zones at any time through the app. This deletion is permanent and takes effect immediately in your active account.
6.3 Deleting Your Account
You can delete your account through the in-app settings or by emailing privacy@greenlapse.app. Upon deletion, we will make every reasonable effort to permanently remove all of your personal data and User Content from our active systems. Residual data in encrypted backup systems may persist temporarily before being purged as part of our standard backup rotation, and will not be used for any active purpose during that time.
6.4 Marketing Communications
You can unsubscribe from marketing emails at any time using the unsubscribe link in any marketing email we send. You will continue to receive transactional emails (such as password resets and account alerts) even after unsubscribing from marketing.
6.5 Push Notifications
You can enable or disable push notifications through your device's notification settings at any time.
7. Data Retention
We retain your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service. Specific retention practices:
- Account data: Retained until you delete your account.
- User Content (photos, plant data): Retained until you delete the content or your account.
- Usage and analytics data: Retained for up to 24 months in identifiable form, then aggregated or deleted.
- Support communications: Retained for up to 3 years to assist with follow-up inquiries.
After account deletion, residual copies in backup systems are purged on a rolling basis as backups expire.
8. California Privacy Rights (CCPA)
If you are a California resident, you have the following rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA):
- Right to Know: You may request a summary of the personal information we have collected about you, the categories of sources, the purposes for which it was collected, and the categories of third parties with whom it has been shared.
- Right to Delete: You may request deletion of your personal information, subject to certain exceptions (e.g., data we are legally required to retain).
- Right to Opt Out of Sale: We do not sell your personal information. No opt-out is required, but you have this right if our practices change.
- Right to Non-Discrimination: We will not discriminate against you for exercising any of your CCPA rights.
To exercise these rights, contact us at privacy@greenlapse.app with the subject line "California Privacy Request." We will respond within 45 days as required by law.
9. Children's Privacy
The Service is not directed to children under the age of 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If we become aware that we have collected information from a child under 18, we will delete it promptly. If you believe we may have such information, contact us at privacy@greenlapse.app.
10. Third-Party Links and Services
The Service may contain links to third-party websites or integrate with third-party platforms (such as Ring). This Privacy Policy does not apply to those third parties. We encourage you to review the privacy policies of any third-party services you connect to or interact with through Greenlapse.
11. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will notify you by email or through a prominent in-app notice at least 14 days before the changes take effect. The "Last Updated" date at the top of this page will always reflect the most recent revision. Your continued use of the Service after the effective date constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
